Tamara Szep first became aware of Fairbridge Festival many years ago. Her friends would always talk about this great festival but she just never seemed to get around to going. Finally, she experienced her first Fairbridge Festival and was hooked immediately. The next year she volunteered, and continued to do so for a few years. Tamara now comes as a media representative for RTRFM. She is always proud to promote Fairbridge Festival because it’s a one of the best festivals around!
Eight years on, she now has a stockpile of great memories including the beautiful flamenco dancers that brought her to tears because their dancing was so amazing. She says the buskers are mind-blowing and she loved the giant Scotsman with his wolfhound. Tamara’s son, Ra, just loves the Woodshed and craft tents but his favourite was the year they had the bike/go-kart/mechanical workshop.
One of Tamara’s regular ports of call is Mick’s chai stall. She says he does the best coffee, chai and conversation. Over the years, everyone else has worked that out too – he’s always busy!
Going to Fairbridge Festival is a very special time for Tamara and her son. He loves the woodworking and feels safe and free to run around. Tamara says it gives them time away from each other while still being together. She loves the amazing music, the dancing and enjoying the community spirit with everyone: “it’s magical, everyone just goes with the flow, catches up with everyone else and feels the freedom; it’s a loving atmosphere. I always discover new and amazing music. It’s a time to reflect and regroup, to party and enjoy”, says Tamara
With so much to love about the festival, Tamara says it’s really hard to pin down her absolute favourite thing. It’s the whole experience but definitely, it’s all about the music, activities, dancing and taking photos of the fun and festivities. She also loves that she can learn new things and is able to bring her son and that there is always something to keep him busy.
