Fronted by singer, songwriter and spiritual leader Sean Gorman, Salary officially began in 2015 after having existed in many different incarnations before hand, including The Shops, Celery & Streaky Jake.
After spending a few years behind the laptop recording home demos honing his craft, Gorman enlisted a cast of musical all-stars to bring his songs to life, which lyrically juxtapose deep philosophy with every-day events and environments.
Sonically the band have been likened to Bruce Springsteen, The Talking Heads and The Arcade Fire, with a healthy twist of Fremantle influenced folk stylings thrown into the mix.
On the live front, their performances are cult-like, intense and confrontational. They balance slacker rock humility and charm with unashamed displays of emotion as Gorman channels a stage presence somewhere between Iggy Pop and Tom Petty.
With a big 2016 on the horizon, Salary are unquestionably one of the most exciting and engaging musical acts to emerge from WA in some time.
