Ticking along steadily since 2013, the Fruity Whites are songwriters Hugh Manning and Alex Griffin, backed by a rotating roster of collaborators. Taking inspiration from Guy Clark, the weird-country of Mayo Thompson and the shambolic post-punk of Tall Dwarfs, the songs explore rural adolescence, teen drinking cultures and outer-suburban malaise. Live they present a Pogues-esque spectacle with rousing sing-a-longs and leaping violin, spearheaded by Manning’s labrodorian enthusiasm. Fairbridge will see them launching their somewhat-awaited debut album.
