Dance Program Director, Hilary McKenna, is looking forward to Fairbridge Festival’s 25th anniversary in 2017 as he celebrates his tenth anniversary with the festival, an achievement of which he is very proud.
Hilary loves the festival: he loves being in the outdoor setting; the outstanding music and dancing; and the fact that the festival attracts people of all ages.
Hilary’s favourite aspect of Fairbridge Festival is the dancing. He knows he is biased. He really enjoys seeing the dance floor jumping and the look of enthusiasm on people’s faces as they’re learning and testing the new dances, and having a great time doing it. There is no dancing without music; Hilary loves that wherever you turn at the festival, there is music… and people dancing to it.
Fairbridge Festival has become an annual reunion for Hilary and his friends in what he refers to as: “a place that we know is special and unique in the world.”
Hilary and his friends dearly value the coming together of music, dance and other incredible art forms all in one place.
He loves creating and finding new dances for the program every year and has choreographed several dances inspired by the festival, for the festival. Hilary is always looking for new and unique experiences to bring to the festival’s audience. He says that artists create for the festival too and the more regular artists cherish the opportunity to surprise and delight their old friends with new creations.
Every year, Hilary is in awe of the patrons’ excitement at having new experiences with new music, new dances, new food and making new friends.
He urges attendees – both crew and guests – not to forget their dancing shoes!
