The Act-Belong-Commit Fairbridge Festival Quest Youth Song-Writing Competition for young West Australians
Song-writing in folk and world music genres tells stories about people and the places they come from. This competition is your chance to tell us your stories and for us to hear your music!
All entrants must be available to perform at the Act-Belong-Commit Fairbridge Festival Quest Final on the evening of Saturday 24 March 2018 where shortlisted entrants will be judged by a distinguished panel of music industry experts.
You must also be available to perform a minimum 20-minute set at Fairbridge Festival, 22 April 2018. Entries must be your original material and be received by 8pm, 3 March 2018 with a $20 admin fee*. Entries must include an audio file of your song(s) and text document of its lyrics both submitted online.
Genre dictionary definitions:
- Folk: Music originating among the common people of a nation or region and spread about or passed down orally, often with considerable variation.
- World: Popular music that has been influenced by the music of traditional cultures

The winner in each of the four categories will receive:
- Fairbridge Festival live performance (Sunday 22 April 2018)
- John Butler Studio recording session voucher
- HK Photography professional photoshoot
- Free WAM Song of the Year entries
- WAMCon 2018 ticket
- Post-final mentoring session from WAM
- Opportunity of Perfect Pitch publishing deal.

Bookings for Fairbridge Festival’s youth song-writing competition workshops are now open with award-winning song-writer facilitators: David Hyams, Lucy Peach, Roly Skender, Helen Townsend and Alexander Turner at the helm. Participants will learn how to hone their songs through a process of discussion, performance, musicianship, lyric writing and recording With leading contemporary WA musicians as they pass on their knowledge and help to refine the song/s for entry to the Act-Belong-Commit Fairbridge Festival Quest youth song-writing competition.
