How to enter
Entries must be your original material in the folk or world music genre*. The closing date is 3 March 2017 (5 pm), with a $20 administration fee per song#. To be eligible, you need to be available to perform a minimum 20-minute set at Fairbridge Festival, 22 April 2016. You must upload your song/s and lyrics via the fields below.
Those selected as finalists must be available to perform at the Quest final on the evening of 25 March, 2017 at Clancy’s Fremantle. The final will be judged by a music industry panel led by Fairbridge Festival’s Artistic Director.
Two winners will be chosen from each age group (12-15 and 16-18) in the following categories:
- Song: Craft
- Song: Performance.
All entrants will be notified by email of success, or otherwise, by 15 March 2017.
Songwriting workshops will be run in the lead-up to the competition’s closing date. The collaborative workshops will be facilitated by award-winning songwriters the likes of Andrew Winton and Roly Skender. Participants will learn how to hone their tunes through a unique, creative process of discussion, performance, lyric writing and recording.
* Genre dictionary definitions
Folk: Music originating among the common people of a nation or region and spread about or passed down orally, often with considerable variation.
World: Popular music that has been influenced by the music of traditional cultures.
# You can enter a maximum of two songs with the $20 fee applicable for each song submitted e.g. $40 in total.
