Jane Aberdeen thrives on the anticipation of going to Fairbridge Festival each year. It’s not just the expectation that she enjoys, but the level of excitement that the festival brings, with each program featuring new performers as well as long-standing favourites returning from near and far.
Jane has been attending the festival for 14 years, and has volunteered in various roles. Today, she is board president of the festival’s management organisation FolkWorld Inc. Even with this intimate involvement in the organisation of the event, it still brings her joy to arrive for a new festival and a new environment.
Her long involvement with the festival has allowed her to forge many memorable memories. As well as the regular rhythm of sharing annual gatherings with old and new friends, a particular delight has been watching the festival’s retinue of kids grow over the years, and seeing how music and performing arts have become woven into their lives.
Today, she reveals her favourite part is sharing the fun of the closing night festivities with others who are, in equal measure, exhausted from the festival pace, yet energised by the amazing music, dance and camaraderie.
Jane plans to keep attending Fairbridge Festival for many years to come, continuing to support people who thrive on creativity, show appreciation for their efforts and to help to keep delivering a fabulous festival each year.
