Island Rhapsodies is a high-energy celebration of Maloya from Réunion Island, bursting with rhythm, harmony and movement. Driven by live percussion and powerful call-and-response vocals, the performance invites audiences to clap, sway and feel the pulse of the Indian Ocean. Rooted in an ancestral tradition once sung in secret, Maloya becomes here a joyful, contemporary gathering of voices and stories.
Salama is a Perth-based ensemble led by Dr Muriel Hillion Toulcanon, bringing together artists from diverse musical backgrounds to share this vibrant Creole art form.
