David Hyams

David is an accomplished Fremantle producer, singer-songwriter and instrumentalist. Equally comfortable across many genres, he is now touring his 4th album bringing together influences, from gentle acoustic fingerstyle, to bluesy electric and country.

David Hyams is an accomplished Fremantle based producer, singer-songwriter and instrumentalist with a long history in the WA music scene. He plays guitars, mandolin, dobro, and harmonica, and is equally comfortable across many genres.His fourth album studio album is due for release in 2023 and brings together many of his influences, from gentle acoustic fingerstyle to hard hitting bluesy electric. His act includes frequent collaborators Roy Martinez (bass), Adam Gare (fiddle), Nikki Dagostino (accordion) Pia Smith (vocals) and Elliot Smith (drums). His songwriting covers wide and varied topics, from journeys through the Australian landscape, to his experiences writing with prisoners in WA jails over many years.

A respected producer and session guitarist, David has worked as sideman to a number of international artists, including Ireland’s Sean Keane. In 2020 he was guitarist for the international award winning Fringe show “Little Death Club”.He has performed across a wide range of genres – folk, celtic, rock, blues and country. His ‘Miles to Go’ band became an Australian festival favourite, with numerous national tours and 8 nominations for “Best World Music Act” at the WA Music Industry (WAM) awards. Currently he performs with the Rose Parker Band, John Bennett and several other bands.

From 2012 -2023 David has been guitarist and part of the musical direction team for the “Songs For Freedom” project with the Aboriginal community of Roebourne, for leading Australian arts company BighART. Described by ABC RN producer Doug Spencer as “one of the most conspicuously useful musicians on Australia’s Western Seaboard…” David was one of the few WA guitarists asked to submit a track for the “Down to the Billabong” compilation of Australian guitar.
